Bavabeedu Gopi S Bhandary Rural Health Training Centre at Ira village of Bantwal Taluk was inaugurated by Shri N Vinaya Hegde, Hon`ble Chancellor, Nitte University on 19th March 2023. The University has a total of 22 rural health centres, and the newest addition is the Centre at Ira village.
The Centre managed jointly by K S Hegde Medical Academy & A B Shetty Memorial Institute of Dental Sciences, both constituent colleges of Nitte Deemed to be University offers state-of-the-art medical facilities free of cost to the residents of Ira and surrounding villages. The Centre has a medical investigative laboratory, male & female wards, a pharmacy, a dental clinic, a minor Operation Theatre, a labor ward and other necessary facilities.
Inaugurating the Centre, Shri N Vinaya Hegde said, "The Centre is a gift by the Nitte University and the Bavabeedu family to the society. The University will continue the work of philanthropy to society. The University believes that a healthy society is a key to inclusive growth".
Prof. Dr. Satheesh Kumar Bhandary, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University) in his introductory remarks, said "The village Ira was lacking health services. The village now has a state-of-the-art facility. The Bavabeedu family feels proud to be part of this initiative supported by the honorable Chancellor Shri N.Vinaya Hegde. The Centre is established as per the norms prescribed by the Government"
The chief guest of the event, Shri UT Khader, MLA of Ullala constituency, expressed his gratitude to the Chancellor of Nitte University for establishing the Health Centre. He requested the University to establish a veterinary college and an agriculture study centre in the near future.
The Pro Chancellors of the University, Prof. Dr. M Shantharam Shetty and Shri Vishal Hegde were the guests of honour. Ira Grama Panchayat President Mrs.Agnes D'souza was the chief guest. Retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court & former Lokayukta of GoK, Shri N Santhosh Hegde and Prof. Dr. Harsha Halahalli, Registrar, Nitte University were present on the occasion.
