COSMOS CLUB

FROM BLUEPRINTS TO BEYOND: THE DAWN OF COSMOS OVERVIEW

A Legacy in the Making

The Vision: Indigenous Innovation

Our vision is to bridge the gap between academic theory and the harsh realities of space exploration. We focus on indigenous development. Whether it’s designing custom Battery Management Systems (BMS) for Indian environmental conditions or implementing completely autonomous drone platforms for GPS-denied environments (as seen in our IRoC 2025 entry), we believe the future of Indian robotics should be built right here on campus.

The International Rover Challenge (IRC)- This rover features an advanced suspension system and a dedicated Life Science laboratory to detect biosignatures in simulated Martian soil.

Autonomous Drone V2: An evolution in aerial robotics, this UAV is being fitted with autonomous docking and charging capabilities, allowing for persistent surveillance without human intervention.

The Engines of COSMOS: Our Team Structure Success in robotics is a team sport. With over 50 active members, COSMOS is organized into specialized departments that mimic the structure of professional aerospace giants like ISRO or NASA

The Next-Gen Mars Rover: A beast of a machine designed for the University Rover Challenge (URC) In the quiet labs of Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology, a revolution is being built—one circuit and one carbon-fiber strut at a time. What began in 2023 as a shared dream among a few space enthusiasts has evolved into COSMOS, the institution’s premier Space and Robotics Society. Today, we aren't just a student club; we are a high-functioning engineering unit preparing to represent India on the global stage.

Our journey started with a bold statement: the ‘Shourya’ moon rover. As a team in our first-ever competition, we didn't just compete; we excelled, placing in the Top 30 at the ISRO Robotics Challenge (IRoC) 2024. The technical sophistication of Shourya was so high that our research findings were compiled into a formal paper—a rare feat for a debutant team.

Building on that momentum, our UAV wing recently secured 2nd Place at the National Level Drone Competition (2026) at Vadiva’s Tech & Design Fest. These accolades aren't just trophies on a shelf; they are proof that NMIT students are ready to "rule the skies and the ground."

DEEP TECH START-UP SUMMIT 2025

Another major highlight of the year was the successful organization of the Deep Tech Start-Up Summit 2025, held on 12–13 September 2025 at NMIT, Bengaluru. Organized under the theme “Engineering the Future: Deep Tech for Viksit Bharat,” the summit served as a national platform for dialogue, collaboration, and innovation in emerging technologies.

The two-day summit brought together over 100 participants, including startup founders, innovators, investors, academicians, and industry leaders from across the country. The event was organized in collaboration with IHFC (IIT Delhi), SRM University, and the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society, Bangalore Chapter.

Key highlights of the summit included keynote addresses and expert talks on robotics, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, sustainability, and embedded systems; panel discussions on startup journeys, academia–industry collaboration, and commercialization of research and intellectual property; a product launch by an NMIT-incubated startup; and a startup pitch competition that provided emerging entrepreneurs with opportunities for recognition, mentorship, and incubation support.

The summit reinforced the department’s leadership role in fostering a vibrant deep-tech startup ecosystem and demonstrated how academia, industry, and innovation platforms can work together to drive national development.
