Prof. N.R. Shetty Prof. N.R. Shetty pursued his B.Sc (Hons) in Physics at Presidency College, Madras. He started his career in the Karnataka Regional Engineering College (Now National Institute of Technology), Surathkal. He served this Institute in different capacities from 1960 to 1993 including the position of Principal for more than 5 years. During this period, he secured UNESCO fellowship to do Master’s Degree at the University of ESSEX in United Kingdom. His area of specialization was Opto Electronics which was an emerging research area during that time. He was interested in pursuing his career in research along with teaching. His keen interest in research enabled him to obtain a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering in IIT, Bombay.

Prof N R Shetty has had many prestigious positions including Vice-chancellor of the Bangalore University, Chief Executive of Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA) at Delhi, President of Indian Society of Technical Education and many others. Currently he is the Chancellor, Central University of Karnataka.

In 1954, he represented India at the General Assembly of the United Nations. He then, became a Judge of the Mysore High Court. In 1966, he was appointed the first Chief Justice of the Delhi and Himachal Pradesh High Court. He held this office till he was elevated to the post of Judge of Supreme Court of India in 1967.
