Prioritizing Wellbeing and Promoting Excellence

At Nitte Meenakshi Institute of Technology (NMIT), we believe that academic excellence thrives when supported by holistic wellbeing. Engineering education can be both exhilarating and challenging, demanding intellectual rigor as well as emotional resilience and mental clarity. That’s why we place a strong emphasis on prioritizing the mental and emotional wellbeing of our students.

Why Wellbeing Matters?

Engineering students face unique challenges: tight deadlines, complex problem-solving, and the drive to innovate. These demands can sometimes lead to stress, burnout, or feelings of isolation. We believe that by fostering a culture of care and support, we can help our students navigate these challenges effectively and emerge as confident, well-rounded professionals.

To support our students on their journey, NMIT offers a range of wellbeing and counselling services designed to address academic, emotional and personal concerns:

  • Personal Counselling: One-on-one sessions with trained counsellors to discuss personal challenges, emotional distress, stress/ anxiety management, relationship issues etc.
  • Academic Support Programmes: Expert guidance to assist students navigate through academic goal setting, effective study habits, test anxiety, memory and concentration related concerns and even time management issues.
  • Crafting career pathways: Support to students and specialized assistance for arriving at career decisions, choices on internships and higher education plans.
  • Crisis Management: The centre with its team is equipped to offer immediate and short-term intervention during personal crisis. Our experts will provide referrals for specialized treatments beyond the scope of counselling services offered in the institution.
  • Interactive sessions and support groups: Centre for Flourish facilitates regular workshops, talks and campaigns on relevant themes for students, faculty and non-teaching staff.
  • Mind Mechanics workshop series: These workshops are scheduled twice a month on Friday afternoons. They anchor on specific, common maladaptive behaviours and unproductive habits that hinder the journey to excellence. These sessions are solution-focused and aim at building skills to take control of our mind and overcome everyday challenges.
  • Wellness Squads: Our student volunteers are trained to be gatekeepers to mental health issues. They provide support to their peers by recognizing signs of psychological distress and guide them to seek help.
  • Peer Support Groups: A safe space for students to connect, share experiences, and support one another.
  • 24/7 Helpline: Immediate access to mental health professionals for students in need of urgent assistance is made available. We have partnered with a well-established hospital catering to psychological needs in north Bangalore.
