The B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering Department at NMIT was established in 2002 with an intake of 60 students. Participation in inter-institute events
Department of Mechanical Engineering has given opportunities to the students to get associated with different student chapters and thus supporting them to attend workshops, technical events and to present papers in renowned conferences, journals.
Students with practical skills were identified and encouraged to attend hands on workshops, in these students were exposed to welding and fabrication of chassis, machining and assembly of complex subsystems. About 50 students were encouraged to participate in fabrication of race cars, all-terrain vehicle and hybrid bikes.

Departmental Forum
YantraYantra is a student forum of the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It was inaugurated in the year 2002 with a student and staff membership of 80. Today, Yantra has more than 3500 members which include alumni as well. Under the banner of Yantra, students organize visits to the industry, cultural events, technical seminars, and sports events. Yantra brings out annual magazine MECHZINE. The inaugural issue of MECHZINE was published in the year 2004. MECHZINE serves as a platform for the students to publish technical and nontechnical articles. The magazine facilitates networking of faculty and students new and old. This premier league, named after the Sanskrit word "Yantra" symbolizing intricate mechanisms, aimed to mirror the precision and strategy required in the game of cricket. Teams from across the departments battled it out in a fiercely competitive tournament, vying for the coveted championship title.

AVISHKAR-2024The Department of Mechanical Engineering conducted its annual project exhibition, AVISHKAR -2024, on 29th April 2024. This event showcased the innovative projects and research work carried out by the final year undergraduate students. AVISHKAR 2022-23‘Avishkar-23’ supported by The Institution of Engineers (India): IEI, a state level project exhibition for students was organized with the aim of providing a platform for showcasing innovative projects and ideas developed by students in the field of Mechanical Engineering and multidisciplinary areas.
