Mr. Prashanth N, Assistant Professor, Department of Mechanical Engineering, is a highly accomplished professional with extensive experience in the field of robotics, mechatronics, and education. He currently serves as the In-Charge of the Centre for Robotics Research and the Centre for Applied Mechatronics, where he leads research and development activities in robotics and automation technologies. In addition to his leadership role in these centers, Prashanth N is also the creator and copyright holder of the OBE Tool, a software tool used by mechanical engineering department to support the implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE).

OBE Tool stands for Outcome Based Education Tool. It is a software tool used by educational institutions to support the implementation of Outcome Based Education (OBE). OBE is an approach to education that focuses on defining specific learning outcomes that students should achieve by the end of a course or program, and then aligning teaching and assessment activities to these outcomes.

The OBE Tool typically includes features such as:

  • Outcome Mapping: A visual mapping of program outcomes and how they align with the broader goals and objectives of the institution.
  • Curriculum MAPPING: A mapping of learning outcomes to specific courses and modules in a program, to ensure that all outcomes are covered.
  • Rubrics: A set of guidelines for assessing students' performance against learning outcomes, to ensure consistency and fairness in assessment.
  • Assessment Planning: A tool for planning and scheduling assessments to align with learning outcomes.
  • Analytics And Reporting: A set of reports and dashboards to track progress against learning outcomes and identify areas for improvement.

The OBE Tool is designed to help educational institutions improve the quality of their education programs, by ensuring that students achieve specific learning outcomes and that teaching, and assessment activities are aligned with these outcomes. The tool can also help institutions to meet accreditation requirements and demonstrate their commitment to quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Student Achievements

Participation in inter-institute events

Department of Mechanical Engineering has given opportunities to the students to get associated with different student chapters and thus supporting them to attend workshops, technical events and to present papers in renowned conferences, journals.

Students with practical skills were identified and encouraged to attend hands on workshops, in these students were exposed to welding and fabrication of chassis, machining and assembly of complex subsystems. About 50 students were encouraged to participate in fabrication of race cars, all-terrain vehicle and hybrid bikes.
