Center for Electric Vehicles

Center for Additive Manufacturing

The Centre for Additive Manufacturing (CAM) is a premier facility dedicated to advanced 3D printing technologies and Industry 4.0 training. With cutting-edge infrastructure and strong industry collaborations, the Centre provides hands-on training to students, researchers, and professionals, bridging the gap between academia and industry. The facility plays a vital role in skill development, research, and innovation, ensuring that learners are equipped with the expertise required for modern manufacturing challenges.

To enhance its training and research capabilities, the Centre has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Additive Manufacturing Society of India (AMSI) and EoS GmbH, Germany. These partnerships ensure that students receive industry-recognized training and certifications, aligning with global manufacturing standards. The collaboration enables joint certification programs, access to international expertise, and exposure to the latest advancements in additive manufacturing.

State-of-the-Art Facilities

The Centre is equipped with world-class additive manufacturing technologies, enabling research and industrial applications in aerospace, automotive, biomedical, and industrial engineering. The facility supports both prototyping and full-scale production, allowing students to work with diverse materials and manufacturing techniques.

To ensure comprehensive exposure to 3D printing technologies, the Centre houses:

  • Two Fused Deposition Modelling (FDM) 3D printers – ideal for rapid prototyping, conceptual models, and functional testing with thermoplastics.
  • One Selective Laser Sintering (SLS) machine – capable of producing high-strength, complex components using powdered materials, widely used in industrial and biomedical applications.
  • One Direct Energy Deposition (DED) system – used for high-precision metal printing, making it suitable for aerospace, automotive, and repair applications.

These facilities enable students and researchers to gain hands-on experience in design optimization, process parameter selection, material testing, and post-processing techniques, enhancing their practical knowledge of additive manufacturing.

Skill Development and Industry 4.0 Training

Each year, all the first-year students undergo structured training programs in Industry 4.0 and Additive Manufacturing, ensuring they acquire essential technical skills for careers in advanced manufacturing. The programs are led by industry experts, providing students with real-world exposure to industrial applications of 3D printing. The curriculum integrates theoretical concepts with hands-on experience, covering:

  • 3D design for additive manufacturing
  • Process control and optimization
  • Material selection and performance evaluation
  • Post-processing and quality assessment
  • Industry 4.0 applications in smart manufacturing

By incorporating automation, IoT-enabled machines, and data-driven decision-making, the Centre prepares students for future careers in digital and intelligent manufacturing.
