Eligibility

The candidate must have passed B. ASLP/ B.Sc. (Speech & Hearing) Degree from any recognized university, approved by the Rehabilitation Council of India, with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks.

Admission Procedure

Students seeking admission to M.Sc. (SLP) and M.Sc. (Audiology) are required to submit the Admission Query Form available on the homepage of www.nitte.edu.in or through the link, apply.nitte.edu.in

On receipt of the same, the Admission Section will guide the students with the process of registration and admission. Admission to M.Sc. (SLP) and M.Sc. (Audiology) is based on the merit in the qualifying examination.

Course details

The program consists of 2 years of academics. Each academic year consists of 2 semesters.

Career Opportunities

Postgraduates can pursue their career as Audiologists and/or Speech - Language Pathologists in various set ups such as Speech & Hearing Clinics, Hearing Aid Centers Cochlear implant rehabilitation Centers, Special Schools for the disabled, Regular schools, Industrial setups, Government or Private hospitals, or can set up their own private practice. Further, those interested in academics and research can pursue higher studies and work in educational institutions in India or abroad. The postgraduates also have employment opportunities in foreign countries like USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Gulf countries.

Duration of the program

The duration of the M.Sc. (SLP) and M.Sc. (Audiology) program each will extend over four semester(s) of course work (two academic years). Each semester shall consist of 16 weeks of study (excluding the time spent for the conduct of the final examination of each semester).

Maximum period for completion of the program

The scholar should complete the program within the period as prescribed in the regulation of Nitte, Deemed to be University governing the maximum period for completing the degree program from the dates of admissions. The term completing the program means passing all the prescribed examinations of the program to become eligible for the degree. No candidate will be permitted to appear for the examinations after the prescribed maximum period for completing the program.

Medium of instruction

Medium of instruction is English.

Attendance

The Institute follows the attendance regulations given by and Nitte University, adhering to the Supreme Court of India's order of minimum of 80% attendance in each subject and 90% in clinical postings to be eligible for theory and/or clinical practical/viva voce exam. A student who does not meet the 80% attendance criteria as above is obliged to repeat that particular full semester to qualify for theory and/ or clinical practical/viva voce exam. Submission of medical certificate for absence will not be considered for condonation of attendance shortage. When the scholar is absent to represent the Institute in Conference/Sports/Research/Council work, a written permission must be duly obtained from the principal. Any changes in the attendance regulations will be duly informed by the Institute to the students.

Course pattern and scheme of examinations

The syllabus of the program shall be as framed by the concerned Board of Studies and approved by the Faculty of Science and Academic Council, Nitte university following the Curriculum prescribed by the Rehabilitation Council of India. There shall be University examinations at the end of each semester ordinarily during October/November for odd semesters and during April/May for even semesters.

Internal Assessment

The internal assessment marks for theory papers shall be based on minimum of two tests and one assignment. The test shall be of at least one hour duration to be held during the semester. The marks obtained for the assignment and the average marks obtained in the two tests shall be taken as internal assessment marks. The internal assessment marks for the clinical practicum will be based on the Continuous Assessment Throughout Semester (CATS) format of the Institute that is framed as per RCI norms.

Dissertation – As a partial requirement of the program, a candidate is required to carry out a research study in a selected area under the supervision of a faculty guide. The dissertation is spread across all the 4 semesters as Dissertation Phase 1, Dissertation Phase 2, Dissertation Phase 3 and Dissertation Phase 1.

Only, a candidate who has a minimum of 80% attendance in Dissertation Phase 3 and Dissertation Phase 4 in the 3rd and 4th semesters respectively shall be eligible to submit the dissertation.

Registration for examinations

A candidate shall register for all the papers and practicals of a semester when he/she appears for the examination of that semester for the first time.

Minimum for Pass

The candidate is required to obtain a minimum of 50% in each of the theory paper(s), internal assessment, practical and clinical examination(s) individually for a pass. A Candidate will not be able to appear for university theory exam if they do not pass (any/all?) their internal assessment, and clinical component. A Candidate will have to pass the clinical examination of the given semester to proceed to the next semester. Each paper should be successfully completed within 3 attempts including, the first one.
