• The Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology (A&OTT) Program offers both undergraduate and postgraduate education and training in the specialized area of Allied Health Sciences.
• The A&OTT Program was initiated in the academic year 2008–09 with the introduction of the Bachelor of Science in Operation Theatre Technology at K.S. Hegde Medical Academy, which was then affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.
• In 2009, when K.S. Hegde Medical Academy became a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), the program came under the jurisdiction of Nitte (Deemed to be University).
• From the academic year 2014–15, in response to the evolving placement opportunities for graduates, the course regulations and nomenclature were revised to Bachelor of Science in Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology.
• Recognizing the need for advanced teaching and the upgradation of undergraduate training, the Master of Science in Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology (M.Sc. A&OTT) was introduced in the academic year 2018–19.
• From March 2025, the Anaesthesia & Operation Theatre Technology program has come under the purview of the newly constituted college Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences.

Anaesthesia and operation theatre technology is the critical component of modern healthcare, ensuring safe and effective surgical procedures. Anaesthesia technologists play a vital role in assisting anesthesiologists with various procedures, including setting up and maintaining Anaesthesia equipment, monitoring patients' vital signs, and helping with airway management. Under the supervision of anesthesiologists, technologists help ensure that Anaesthesia is administered safely and effectively, allowing patients to undergo surgery with minimal discomfort and risk. By working together, Anaesthesia and operation theatre technologists prioritize patient safety and well-being, enabling successful surgical outcomes.

Service

• The Anaesthesia and Operation Theatre Technology department provides its services in the parent department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care.
• It aims to provide graduates who are well versed in planning, setting up, maintaining, and managing the Operation Theatre, working as a member of the rescue team, and providing services during Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation, code blue, etc.
• They are also educated about the equipment and monitors inside and outside the operation theatre, including Endoscopy, Radiology suite, IVF, and Casualty.
• This program will produce graduates and postgraduates who are qualified and eligible to teach and train future students in the same specialty.
• The interns and postgraduates are posted in different locations where anaesthesia services are provided, such as the Operation Theatre including super specialties, Intensive Care Unit, Endoscopy, Radiology suite, IVF, Cathlab, Dialysis, and Casualty.

Bachelor of Science in Anaesthesia and operation theatre technology

• Duration: 6 semesters (3 years) + 2 semester (1 year) internship
• Eligibility: 12 th with above 50% Marks

Master of Science in Anaesthesia and operation theatre technology

• Duration:2 years (4 semesters)
• Eligibility: BSc Anaesthesia and operation theater technology/ Anaesthesia technology/ Operation Theatre Technology with Min 50% Marks
