About Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS)

Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS), Deralakatte, Mangalore, is a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University). The institute aims to send out into society competent allied health professionals with a view to preventing, diagnosing, and treating a large number of conditions and illnesses; working with a multidisciplinary health care team and providing the best patient outcomes. Students admitted to the institute are trained in diagnostic, technical, therapeutic and patient and support care services that are critical in the hospital setup.

The courses offered are specifically designed to prepare undergraduates and postgraduates for rewarding careers in the globally growing healthcare industry. Currently, the institute offers programs in undergraduate and postgraduate studies in 15 disciplines; i.e., BSc (Anaesthesia & OTT), BSc (Medical Imaging Technology), BSc (Respiratory Therapy), BSc (Medical Lab Technology), BSc (Renal Dialysis Technology), BSc (Radiation Therapy Technology), MSc (Anaesthesia & OTT), MSc (Medical Imaging Technology), MSc (Respiratory Therapy), MSc (Medical Lab Technology), MSc (Clinical Embryology), MPH (Public Health), MHAHSM (Hospital Administration), PG Diploma CTT and PG Diploma MRIT.

The courses provided have a nationally and internationally accepted curriculum following a semester and credit system framework with easy credit transfer and are recognized by the respective regulatory bodies in India and abroad. There are 604 students on roll and 1500 alumni spread across the world.

Clinical and hands-on training is provided at Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital, which is a 1200-bed NABH-accredited hospital and NABL-accredited Central Laboratory with state-of-the-art facilities, namely, 3 Tesla MRI, 21 Operation Theatres including Robotic OT and Cardiothoracic OTs, Radiotherapy Unit with PET Scan and Gamma Camera, IVF Centre for Assisted Reproductive Therapy. There is an Advanced Neurosciences Block that carries out research work on multiple sclerosis, Central Research Laboratory (cytogenetics, molecular genetics, and biodosimetry), Tissue Bank and Skill Lab. Students have opportunities for various academic exchange programs across 15 collaborating global universities.
