About the Program

The Master of Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology (MMRIT) is a two-year postgraduate program designed to prepare skilled imaging professionals with in-depth theoretical knowledge and hands-on clinical expertise in modern diagnostic imaging. The program curriculum covers advanced imaging modalities such as Digital Radiography, Computed Tomography (CT), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, and Nuclear Medicine, integrated with anatomy, pathology, image processing, and patient care.

With an emphasis on clinical application, research methodology, and technology-driven diagnostics, the program aims to create highly competent imaging technologists ready to work in hospitals, diagnostic centers, research institutions, and academia.

About the Institution

Nitte Institute of Allied Health Sciences (NIAHS), established in 2025, is a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru, and situated in the Medical Sciences Complex at Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

Infrastructure & Clinical Training

The Department of Medical Radiology and Imaging Technology at NIAHS provides a technologically advanced, clinically oriented learning environment equipped with modern imaging systems and dedicated post-processing facilities. Students gain hands-on exposure to a comprehensive range of diagnostic and interventional imaging modalities, including

  • Computed Tomography (CT): GE Healthcare Evolution EVO 128-slice CT system
  • Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI): Siemens MAGNETOM Avanto 1.5T and Siemens MAGNETOM Vida 3T MRI systems
  • Digital Radiography (DR): AGFA DX-D600 and Skanray SkanRad digital radiography systems
  • Computed Radiography (CR): CR systems for digital image acquisition and processing
  • Mammography: Siemens Mammomat Inspiration
  • Fluoroscopy and Interventional units
  • Ultrasound and Doppler Imaging
  • Nuclear Medicine
  • PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System)
  • 3D reconstruction and post-processing workstations

The academic programme is further strengthened through structured clinical postings at Justice K.S. Hegde Charitable Hospital, where students gain practical exposure to a wide spectrum of clinical cases, imaging protocols, patient-care practices, and real-time departmental workflows. This integrated academic and clinical learning environment enables students to develop technical competence, professional skills, and confidence in contemporary medical imaging practice.

Potential Employers:

Medical imaging professionals are usually employed in the medical imaging/radiology departments of large teaching hospitals, private and country hospitals, and private radiological clinics. Post Graduates may work in the field of teaching, Research , Application Specialist, Radiology Technologist, Clinical Supervisor and even as a clinical research consultant. Professionals may eventually specialise in particular areas of practice, or in specific techniques such as Computed Tomography, Ultrasound, Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Picture Archiving and Communication Systems (PACS).

Graduates may also pursue more technical careers in medical physics or biophysics, quality control, radiation health, or with equipment manufacturers. Managerial careers within medical imaging service departments are also possible, as is pursuing further education or research. The medical imaging graduates are highly regarded and employment opportunities are readily available, in both metropolitan and rural and regional areas. There is high industry demand, and you will be qualified to work anywhere in India and in many locations internationally.
