Department of Radiodiagnosis

The Department of Radiodiagnosis at KS Hegde Medical Academy, Mangalore, was established in 1999. It is a highly specialized department committed to meeting the diagnostic imaging and interventional needs of patients and clinicians.

The department strives to provide services of the highest quality, ensuring accurate and timely diagnosis through state-of-the-art imaging modalities. These facilities support clinicians in delivering effective treatment and improved patient care.

In addition to clinical services, the department actively contributes to academic training for postgraduate and undergraduate students, as well as other healthcare personnel. A team of highly motivated and experienced radiologists works collaboratively in a progressive environment.

The department has also established a dedicated multidisciplinary Fetal Care Unit, offering advanced fetal imaging and interventions, including 2D fetal echocardiography, TIFFA scans, and fetal procedures. The department is actively involved in research in the field of radiology.

A dedicated Interventional Radiology Unit has been established to provide minimally invasive, image-guided treatments.

Objectives

  • To provide accurate diagnosis with minimal expenditure and reduced turnaround time.
  • To perform advanced imaging techniques using standardized scientific protocols.

Strengths

  • A team of highly motivated radiologists working cohesively in a progressive environment.
  • Availability of Digital Mammography with Tomosynthesis and Stereotactic Biopsy.
  • Advanced infrastructure including:
    • CR & DR system
    • 128-slice CT scanner
    • 3 Tesla MRI
    • 3D/4D Ultrasound systems
    • High-resolution multimodality reporting monitors
  • These facilities ensure rapid and accurate diagnosis, improving overall patient care.

Opportunities

  • Significant scope for academic and research contributions due to high patient load and diverse case exposure.
  • Interdepartmental meetings can be formalized and conducted regularly to enhance collaborative decision-making and postgraduate learning.
  • Expansion of Interventional Radiology services with the recent appointment of a specialist.
  • Growth in Fetal Medicine services, including high-risk pregnancy and advanced fetal imaging and interventional procedures.

Challenges

Continuous upgradation of infrastructure and faculty to meet evolving healthcare demands and societal needs.
