• U-20 Girls Category secured a gold medal in 100 mtr. run & 200 mts. run at Udupi District Amateur Athletic meet held at District stadium Ajjarakadu, Udupi on 15 & 16 August 2025.
• U-20 category athlete secured a Gold Medal in the 100 metres event and was conferred the Best Athlete Award at the Karnataka State Inter-District Athletic Competition held at District Stadium, Ajjarakadu, Udupi, from 23 to 25 August 2025. The athlete has further qualified to represent the state at the South Zone and Junior National Athletic Competitions.
• Secured Second place in 100 mts. run & 4x100m relay at the 36th South Zone Junior Under - 20 years Athletics Competitions 2025 which was held at Guntur, A.P- organised by Andhra Pradesh Athletic Association at Acharya Nagarjuna University, A. P. from 23 to 25 September 2025.

The Men’s Volleyball Team emerged victorious, securing the Winners Trophy at the Inter-Collegiate Invitational Volleyball Tournament conducted at St. Aloysius College, Mangaluru, on 24 September 2025.

Mr. Preran R Kille, II Sem, Bio Tech has secured - 02 Gold medals in Point Fight and Light Contact (51 kg category) and Ms. Ridhanya D Ganiga, II Sem, Bio Tech- Bronze medal in Light contact (50 kg category) in Nationals Kickboxing Championship which was held at Dr. Y. • The VTU Inter-Collegiate Mangaluru Division Men’s Hockey Tournament was conducted on 01 June 2024 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Hockey Field. A total of six men’s hockey teams participated in the competition.

  The tournament was inaugurated by Ms. Jyothi Shetty, former National Hockey Player. Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAM Institute of Technology, presided over the inaugural function.

  During the valedictory ceremony, Sri Ashok Adyanthaya, Honorary President of the Udupi District Amateur Athletic Association, distributed certificates and trophies to the winners and runners-up.

  
  
  
• The VTU Inter-Collegiate Table Tennis Tournament for Men and Women was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology on 02 July 2024 at B. C. Alva Indoor Stadium, Deralakatte, Mangaluru.

  The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Nagesh Prabhu, Director – Staff Development, Nitte (Deemed to be University), Mangaluru.

  During the valedictory function, Dr. Murali Krishna V. distributed the certificates and trophies to the winners and runners-up.

• The Nitte Kabaddi League 2024 was successfully conducted on 05 October 2024 at the Open Auditorium for students of Nitte Off-Campus Centre, Nitte (Deemed to be University). The event featured eight teams competing in a league format on a Kabaddi mat.

  The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAM Institute of Technology, with Mr. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator of NET Campus, serving as the Guest of Honour.

  During the valedictory function, Mr. Jaganath Shetty, Supervisor of Minakshi Guest House, and Mr. Kiran Kumar, Hostel Supervisor, along with the Physical Education Directors of Nitte Campus and tournament officials, presented trophies to the winners and runners-up, bringing the event to a successful conclusion.




• The Nitte (Deemed to be University) Inter-Collegiate Chess Championship for Men and Women 2024 was conducted on 22 October 2024 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex. A total of seven men’s teams and five women’s teams participated in the competition.

  The tournament was inaugurated by Ms. Shalmika K. Jain, Former National Chess Player. Dr. Ramesh I. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal of NMAM Institute of Technology, presided over the function




• The Department of Physical Education conducted the Nitte (Deemed to be University) Cross Country – 10 km (Men & Women) and Karate (Men & Women) Team Selection Trials on 07 November 2024 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Ground, Nitte.


• The Inter-Collegiate Weight Lifting, Power Lifting (Men & Women), and Best Physique (Men) Competitions and Selection Trials were organized on 08 November 2024 at the Gymnasium of B. C. Alva Memorial Indoor Stadium.

A total of 46 participants competed across the men’s and women’s categories.




• VTU Mangaluru Division Cricket men’s tournament was conducted by NMAM IT, Nitte from 20 to 26 November 2024 at B.C. Alva Sports Complex cricket ground, Nitte. The tournament was inaugurated by Sri. Jagannath Shetty, Senior Manager, Nitte Meenakshi Guest House, Nitte. In the valedictory function, Mrs. Shaila Shetty, Senior Accounts Suptd. distributed the trophies to the winners & the runners.


• The VTU Inter-Collegiate State-Level Men’s Cricket Tournament was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology from 28 November to 02 December 2024. The matches were held simultaneously at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Cricket Ground, Nitte, and Sahyadri College of Engineering & Management, Mangaluru.

The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT. Prof. A. Yogeesh Hegde, Director (Campus Maintenance and Development), Nitte Off-Campus Centre, Nitte (DU), was present on the occasion.

During the valedictory function, Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar and Mrs. Shaila Shetty, Senior Accounts Superintendent, distributed the trophies to the winners and runners-up.



• The VTU Mangaluru Division Men’s Handball Tournament was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology on 13 December 2024.

The tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Shanthanu Sanjay Shetty, Former National Handball Player and Alumnus of NMAMIT. Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAMIT, presided over the function.

During the prize distribution ceremony, Mr. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator of NET Campus, and Mr. Ravindra Kumar, Physical Education Director of Dr. NSAM PU College, Nitte, distributed the trophies and certificates to the winners and runners-up.

• VTU Mangaluru Division Cricket Selections

The VTU Mangaluru Division Cricket Selections were conducted on 21 and 22 December 2024 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Ground, Nitte. A total of 37 cricket players from the VTU Mangaluru Division participated in the selection trials.



• 39th Annual Sports Meet of NMAMIT

The 39th Annual Sports Meet of NMAM Institute of Technology was conducted on 19 March 2025 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Athletics Ground, Nitte.

Dr. Sudhir M., Director of Justice K. S. Hegde Institute of Management, was the Chief Guest and inaugurated the meet. Prof. A. Yogeesh Hegde served as the Guest of Honour, and Dr. Ramesh I. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal, NMAMIT, presided over the function.

Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal; Dr. Subramanya Bhat K., Controller of Examinations, Nitte Off-Campus Centre, Nitte (DU); and Sri Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator I/C, were present on the occasion.

Approximately 3,500 students participated in the march past and various athletics events.

The Nitte (Deemed to be University) Inter-Collegiate Athletics Championship was conducted on 20 March 2025 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Athletics Ground, Nitte, with 282 athletes from various Nitte (DU) institutions participating in the competition. Dr. Siddarth M. Shetty, Professor, Department of Orthopedics and Staff Advisor, Student Council, KSHEMA, inaugurated the meet as Chief Guest; Prof. A. Yogeesh Hegde was the Guest of Honour; and Dr. Subramanya Bhat K., Controller of Examinations, Nitte Off-Campus Centre, Nitte (DU), presided over the function, in the presence of Shri Ashok Adyanthaya, Honorary President of the Udupi District Amateur Athletic Association; Dr. Murali Krishna V., Deputy Director (Sports), Nitte (DU); and Sri Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator I/C. In the students’ events, Mr. Basavaraj Vibhoothi from Dr. NSAM First Grade College was adjudged Best Athlete in the Men’s category and Ms. Siona Angela Rodrigues from NMAM Institute of Technology was adjudged Best Athlete in the Women’s category, and athletics track and field events along with recreational events were also conducted for staff members. In the March Past competition, NMAM Institute of Technology secured the Championship, Dr. NSAM First Grade College secured the First Runner-Up position, and Nitte Institute of Professional Education secured the Second Runner-Up position, and during the closing ceremony Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar distributed medals, trophies, and certificates to the winners. In the Men’s Team Championship, NMAM Institute of Technology emerged as Champions, Dr. NSAM First Grade College secured the Runner-Up position, and Justice K. S. Hegde Institute of Management secured the Second Runner-Up position, while in the Women’s Team Championship NMAM Institute of Technology emerged as Champions, Dr. NSAM First Grade College secured the Runner-Up position, and Nitte University Centre for Science Education & Research secured the Second Runner-Up position, and the Overall Championship was bagged by NMAM Institute of Technology with 113 points while Dr. NSAM First Grade College secured the Overall Runner-Up position with 101 points.

• The Nitte (Deemed to be University) Inter-Collegiate Leather Ball T-20 Men’s Cricket Tournament was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology from 22 to 25 March 2025 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Cricket Ground, Nitte, and the tournament was inaugurated by Mr. Suresh Shetty, Resident Engineer, Department of NMAMIT.


• The “Nitte Meenakshi Hegde Memorial Trophy” Invitational Women’s Throwball Tournament for colleges of Udupi and Dakshina Kannada Districts was held on 25 March 2025 at the Throwball Court near B. C. Alva Memorial Indoor Stadium, Nitte.



• 15. The Sports award Ceremony of NMAMIT for distributing the Certificates, medals and trophies to the winners and runners of Khelothsav 2025 was conducted on 04.04.2025.



• The B.C. Alva Memorial Trophy Men’s Football Tournament was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology on 26 April 2025 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Artificial Turf Football Field. The tournament was inaugurated by Sri N. Vinaya Hegde, Chancellor of Nitte (Deemed to be University) and President of Nitte Education Trust, in the presence of Dr. Gopal Mogeraya, Vice President – Technical Education, Nitte (DU); Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT; Prof. A. Yogeesh Hegde, Director (Campus Maintenance & Development), Nitte Off-Campus Centre; and Dr. Ramesh I. Mithanthaya, Vice Principal, NMAMIT. A total of eight selected teams from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Districts participated in the competition. During the valedictory programme, Dr. Ramesh I. Mithanthaya distributed medals and trophies to the winners and runners-up, and Mr. Ravindra Kumar, Physical Education Director of Dr. NSAM PU College, Nitte, was felicitated during the programme.



• “The “Justice K. S. Hegde Memorial Trophy” State-Level Inter-Collegiate Staff Tennis Ball Cricket Tournament (Men) was held on 10 and 11 May 2025 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Cricket Ground, Nitte. The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Niranjan N. Chiplunkar, Principal of NMAM Institute of Technology, in the presence of Dr. Srinivas Rao B. R., Vice Principal, and Dr. Srinath Shetty, Resident Engineer. A total of 16 teams from across Karnataka participated in the tournament. During the valedictory function, Mrs. Radha Prabhu, Principal of Dr. NSAM English Medium School; Mr. Ramesh Yaragatti, Student Welfare Officer, NMAMIT; and Mr. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator I/C, distributed the trophies and medals to the winners and runners-up, with NMAM Institute of Technology emerging as Winners and K. S. Hegde Medical Academy (KSHEMA), Mangaluru, securing the Runner-Up position.

Organization of sports events by the Department of Physical Education and Sports

1.Visvesvaraya Technological University Inter Collegiate Mangaluru Division men and women Badminton tournaments were conducted on 19 July 2023 successfully. The tournament was inaugurated by Dr. Preetham Shetty K V, Librarian, NMAMIT and former State Level Badminton player. Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT, Nitte, Mr. John D’Silva, Chairman, John’s Sports & Cultural Academy, Karkala and Mr. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator I/C present during the occasion.Total 09 men teams & 07 women teams took participated in the competitions under Mangaluru Division colleges affiliated to VTU.

NMAMIT men team secured the Championship Trophy in the tournament.

2.The VTU Inter Collegiate State Level Yoga men & women competition was conducted on 30.08.2023 very successfully. 128 Yoga players participated in the competition. The tournament was inaugurated by Ms. Shreevani Bairy, an Alumnus, NMAMIT & National Yoga player.

Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar was presided over the function. Sri. K Narendra Kamath, International Yoga referee, Mr. Ranganath G.H, Former Director of Physical Education, VTU, Belagavi, Mrs. Vaneesha Rodrigues, Regional Director, VTU, Mangaluru Division, were present during the occasion. NMAMIT Men Yoga team secured the Runner up trophy to this tournament.

3.Nitte (Deemed to be University) Inter Collegiate Yoga & Chess men & women competitions & selection trials conducted on 18 October 2023 at Sadananda Open Auditorium

The competition was inaugurated by Sri. Ashok Kumar, International Yoga player from Kukkundoor, Karkala. The function was presided by Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT with the gracious presence by Dr. I R Mithanthaya , Vice Principal & Dean (Academic), Dr. Srinivas Rao, Vice Principal & CoE, Dr. Rekha Bhandarkar, Deputy Registrar, Nitte (DU) & Dr. Subrahmanya Bhat, Deputy CoE, Nitte (DU). A total number of 95 participants took part in both the events in men & women sections.

The Sports award ceremony of Nitte Khelothsav was held on 15.04.2024 at SAC OAT, NMAMIT. Prof. A Yogeesh Hegde, Director, Campus maintenance & Development, Nitte Off Campus centre, Nitte (DU) and Mrs. Suneetha R. Shetty, Sr. Administrative Suptd., NMAMIT distributed the trophies and medals to the winners and the runners. Chemistry Cycle emerged the overall championship trophy and Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning secured the Runner up overall games events

7.The VTU Inter Collegiate Mangaluru Division Hockey men competition conducted on 03.02.2024 very successfully. 06 Hockey teams participated in the competition. Dr. Ramesh I Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean (Academic) was presided over the function. In student’s athletic events, Mr. Shreyas N.R., from NIPT, Deralakatte, secured best Athlete in men section & Ms. Siona Angela Rodrigous, NMAMIT, secured best Athlete in women section. Athletics track and field events along with recreation events also conducted to the staff members during the sports meet.

In the March Past competition, NMAMIT, Nitte and Dr. NSAM FGC, Nitte secured the Championship and runner up trophies respectively.

7. The 37th College Annual Sports Day was conducted on 14 March 2023 at B.C. Alva Sports Complex Athletics Ground, Nitte. Sri. Gunapala J, Ex Athlete, NMAMIT & Police Sub Inspector, Mescom Vigilance Police Station, Mangaluru was the chief guest and inaugurated the meet. Dr. Ramesh I Mithanthaya, Vice Principal & Dean Academic was presided over the function. Sri. Ashok Adyanthaya, Honorary President, Udupi District Amateur Athletic Association, Prof. A. Yogeesh Hegde, Director (CM & D), Nitte Off Campus Centre, Dr. Srinivas B Rao, Vice Principal & COE and Sri. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator I/C present during the occasion.

In student’s athletic events, Mr. Manoj Binnal, VI Sem, Information Science has secured best Athlete in men section & Ms. Siona Rodrigous, 1st year, Chemistry cycle has secured best Athlete in women section. Athletic and recreation events also conducted to the staff members during the sports meet.

In the March Past competition, Post Graduates, Ist year Physics Cycle & AI & ML secured the cash award with I Place, II Place & III Place respectively and the staff team awarded with consolation prize.

8. VTU Mangaluru Division Cricket men tournament was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte from 14 to 19 March 2023 successively. The tournament was inaugurated by Sri Sadananda Shirva, Ex. Senior Manager, Karnataka Bank Ltd., Total 14 teams participated in the tournament affiliated to VTU Mangaluru Division.

In the prize distribution function, Dr. K. B. Vijaya Kumar, Red. Professor, Mangalore University & Adjunct Professor, NMAMIT, Nitte and Dr. Fazlu. Rehaman, Principal, AITM, Bhatkal distributed the trophies to winner and runner up teams.

9. Inter Branch “KHELOTSAV 2023” Game Competitions was conducted by Department of Physical Education from 2 March to 9 April 2023 at B. C. Alva Sports Complex Ground and B. C. Alva Memorial Indoor Stadium, Nitte. 14 sports event competitions were conducted for the students of NMAMIT & the tournament was inaugurated by Sri. Eswar Prasad, Asst. Professor, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy, Mangaluru with presence of Mr. Shyam Sundar M, Sports Administrator Incharge.

Coaching camp & Selection trials

• 1. VTU Chess and Nitte (Deemed to be University) women’s team coaching camp (towards its participation in South Zone Inter University competition) was held at NMAMIT, Nitte on 5 & 6 December 2022.
• 2. VTU Athletics Coaching camp both men & women towards its participation in South West Zone Inter University Athletic Championship was held at B.C. Alva Sports Complex Athletics ground from 4th to 9th December 2022.
• 3. VTU Mangaluru Division Men Cricket Selections was conducted by NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, Karkala on 4 February 2023.
• 4. VTU Chess men team coaching camp towards its participation in South Zone Inter University competitions was held at NMAMIT, Nitte from 5 to 8 March 2023.
