The NSS Unit of NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte, in association with the Karnataka Rajya Mahavidyalaya Shikshakara Sangha (R.) Mangaluru Unit and Rotary Club, Nitte, organized a special program “Rani Abbakka @500” (Inspirational Series of 100 Lectures - 77) on 18th September 2025, to mark the 500th birth anniversary of the valiant queen Rani Abbakka.
The event was inaugurated by Shri A Yogeesh Hegde, Director (Campus Maintenance & Development), Off-Campus Center of NitteDU, who, in his address, highlighted the bravery, leadership and patriotism of Rani Abbakka, portraying her as an inspiring icon for today’s youth.
The keynote address was delivered by Sri. Muniraja Renjala, Retd.Headmaster, Karkala, who spoke on Rani Abbakka’s legacy in resisting colonial forces and emphasized the need to draw lessons of courage and unity from history. He also remembered Rani Abbakka as one among the first set of freedom fighters with values of courage, sacrifice and patriotism.
Presiding over the function, Dr. Niranjan N Chiplunkar, Principal, NMAMIT appreciated the initiative of remembering historic women leaders through academic and cultural forums.
Ms. Sharanya, a student of the NSS Unit welcomed the gathering. Dr. Surendra Shetty, President of KRMSS, Udupi briefed about the significance of the program.
Dr. Raghunandan Rao, President, Rotary Club Nitte delivered the formal vote of thanks.
