As a part of industry academia collaboration, a Workshop on Short Filmmaking & Photography was conducted by Shankar Madkekar and Shubra Dutta from 17th to 20th October 2022.
A postgraduate in Direction and Cinematography from the Film and Television Institute of India, Pune Shankar Madkekar has produced 75 documentaries, 3 feature films and several corporate ads including those for Pidilite, Crompton and Thermax. He is Visiting Faculty at various film institutes in India and is also on the selection committee of the Mumbai International Film Festival (MAMI).
A postgraduate in Mass Communication from Jadhavpur University and a postgraduate in Cinematography from SRFTI, Kolkata, Shubra worked under the guidance of Subrato Mitra (Pather Panchali, Aparajito and Apur Sansar fame) and learnt the finer nuances of lighting techniques and cinematography. She has worked as a freelance filmmaker and assisted in cinematography for top notch cinematographers in the country.
The Workshop which was open to students of MA and PG Diploma in Photography & Filmmaking saw script writing, screenplay, story building and narration, character arcs and dialogue writing being taught on Day 1.
Day 2 concentrated on different techniques for lighting, camera movements, understanding camera lenses, video and audio formats.
Day 3 was reserved for a recce and casting for an ad film that the students had to come up with, followed by the actual shoot. Students were made into teams and got to handle direction, cinematography, production, acting and dialogues.
