Debate on Media Accountability and Substance Use

As part of Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, the Nitte Institute of Communication organized a Debate Competition on the topic ‘Should the media be legally held accountable for glamorizing substance use in entertainment content?’ on 16th August 2025 at the Paneer Campus.
A total of ten participants actively engaged in a thought-provoking discussion. The debate witnessed well researched arguments both for and against the motion, emphasizing the diverse perspectives on the role and responsibility of media in shaping public attitudes towards substance use. The event was judged by Jayanth Kodkani, Adjunct Faculty, NICO, who appreciated the participant’s efforts and shared valuable insights. The competition, coordinated by Sanrita Madtha, Faculty In-Charge under the guidance of Prof. Dr. P.V. Satya Prasad, Head, NICO, highlighted student’s critical thinking and raised awareness on the social impact of media portrayals on society.
