Industry Visit to Printers Mysore Private Limited
Dec 4, 2024
The first and second year BA students of NICO embarked on an industry visit to the printing press plant of Printers Mysore Private Limited located in the Baikampady Industrial Area to gain firsthand experience of the newspaper printing process on 4th December 2024.
The students were first provided with a comprehensive overview of the facility, then divided into groups and guided through the Computer-to-Plate (CTP) technology process. The staff elucidated the initial step of transferring images onto aluminum plates, emphasizing the significance of the CMYK color model (Cyan, Magenta, Yellow and Black) in digital format. The students were then shown the intricate process of printing these images onto the plates. Next, the students were introduced to the punching machine responsible for punching the plates, which typically contain two newspaper pages, and creating the necessary folds for the printing process. Students observed the printing machines in action, the insertion of plates into the machines and adjustment of ink percentages. Simultaneously, the paper rolls were loaded, ready to receive the printed content. The initial stack of printed papers provided a visual representation of the gradual color printing process and the meticulous color correction techniques employed. A dedicated team member would randomly select a printed paper and examine it under a magnifying glass to ensure accurate color reproduction. Any necessary adjustments were made at a designated station, where the correct values were entered and automatically transmitted to the machine.
The impressive printing rate of 45,000 copies per hour was a testament to the efficiency of the process. The students witnessed the production of renowned newspapers such as Deccan Herald, Prajavani, Sudha and Mayura. The printed papers were then meticulously stacked, packed and prepared for distribution to various locations.
