The Department of Orthopedics, KS Hegde Medical Academy organized a CME on “From Idea to Publication” on 24th May 2026. Prof. (Dr) M Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte DU was the Chief guest. The inaugural ceremony was graced by Guest of Honour Dr. B Sachidananda Rai, renowned Orthopedician, Dr. Vikram Shetty, HoD, Orthopedics and Dr. Dileep K S, Head of the Scientific Committee.

The CME featured a series of expert sessions covering key aspects of research and publication. Dr. Shantharam Shetty spoke on ‘Topic Selection & Research Planning’; Dr. Isaac Joseph Thomas discussed patents, innovation and balancing clinical practice with research; Dr. Janardan Aithal highlighted publication ethics & regulatory requirements for hospital-based studies; Dr. Praveen Shetty explained how research trials can be integrated into routine clinical practice; Dr. Fahim Kotekar delivered a session on journal selection, including identifying predatory journals; Dr. Praveen Shastry explored the role of Artificial Intelligence in research, emphasizing its benefits and ethical considerations; Dr. Ashwat Acharya discussed research reviews, publication strategies and the responsibilities of reviewers and editors.

The final session by Dr. Murli Poduval, focused on academic growth and career advancement in research.
