The NSS Unit of Nitte Institute of Communication (NICO) successfully executed an e-waste collection drive in collaboration with Mangala Resource Management Pvt. Ltd. The campaign, which was organised between the 3rd & 8th July, aimed to raise awareness about the importance of responsible e-waste disposal and promote sustainable practices within the university community.

After meticulous planning, the NSS unit reached out to Mangala Resource Management to discuss the campaign details. With their valuable assistance, e-waste bins were placed at different locations in the Paneer campus. Accompanied by informative posters, these bins ensured easy accessibility and visibility for students to dispose off their e-waste.

On the designated day, 6th July 2023, Ranjan Bellarpady, Executive Director, Mangala Resource Management, delivered an insightful talk on Waste Management in the University Auditorium. 90 students from various Nitte institutions attended the event and actively participated in the program.

The e-waste management campaign achieved significant results, leaving a lasting impact on many students and faculty members. The pre & post feedback from participants demonstrated an increased awareness and knowledge about the environmental effects of e-waste and the necessary actions to be taken. The campaign successfully collected e-waste from seven locations in the campus.

In addition to the positive feedback received from teaching faculty and students, requests were made for permanent e-waste bins to be installed in the college campus, indicating the popularity of the campaign.

The Team had placed e-bins at key locations, including NICO, NUCSER, NGSMIPS, NUINS, and the Boys (Abhay) and Girls Hostels (Ekta). The bins were consistently monitored, and students and staff were encouraged to contribute e-waste. These interactions not only raised awareness but also inspired active involvement in the campaign. The e-waste collection drive resulted in the collection of 24.5 kilograms of e-waste from the designated bins placed at various locations within the campus.
