COOPERATIVE LEARNING AND INTERNSHIP

Cooperative Education (co-op) is an experiential learning program that takes education beyond the classroom. Under this program, students in the sixth semester (third year) work under the supervision of a design professional, gaining practical experience and theoretical understanding in specialized, discipline related electives of their choice. Student work is periodically reviewed and evaluated by NIA faculty to ensure that academic goals are met.

The co-op program at Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA) is built along the lines of the highly successful co-operative education program at the University of Cincinnati. During the co-op program students are able to practically apply what they have learnt in an academic setting. While the Program helps students develop their understanding of the world of architecture, it also provides them the opportunity to learn real-life professional and interpersonal skills.

The students of NIA undergo Internship during the 9th semester in the office of a COA registered architect or an organization operating in the field of practice or research, duly approved by the institution, under the mentorship of an architect having experience of at least 5 years. Training can also be carried out in a foreign country, but it should be strictly under the supervision of the Registered Architect of that Country and approved and monitored by the Head of the Institution. The Experiential Learning Centre (ELC) is a department at NIA that handles all formalities and activities related to the Internship
