Nitte Institute of Architecture (NIA), Mangalore was established in 2015 with the vision of building a learning campus that supports creative exploration and nurtures the journey of students towards a meaningful architectural practice. With its energetic, innovative and vibrant approach to architectural education, NIA is on its way to becoming a world-class institution. The school has been envisioned as a centre for excellence in tropical architecture with partners across the world and plans to offer undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in urban planning, conservation, interior design, arts and product design in the near future.
NIA is a constituent college of Nitte (Deemed to be University), a premier university in Karnataka. The University has been accredited with an ‘A+’ grade by the National Assessment & Accreditation Council (NAAC). The college offers a 5-year Bachelor in Architecture program that is approved by the Council of Architecture (CoA) and the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The curriculum at NIA is designed to incorporate hands-on practical training with theory-based education so that students learn by ‘doing’. They can explore design through materials such as clay and wood. Structures are taught using models and real-life scenarios and students work with design professionals and learn under their supervision. An impactful architectural education at NIA is given, but apart from that, students will also learn real-life skills that will make them market-ready for a fruitful professional career.
