Library and Information Centre

The resources and services of the Library and Information Centre of NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences have been created to meet the specific needs of the students and faculty members. The mission of the Library is based on the dual goals of providing access to information while assuring the preservation of Library resources and collections. In achieving these goals, the Library will ensure access for all users who need information while implementing appropriate standards to provide for the preservation of library materials and resources.

The NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences has a well-stocked library with a large floor area of 3230 Sq. ft. The Library has a rich collection of. Its collections od Printed Books, Back Volumes, W.H.O Publications and CD-ROM. The Library subscribes to National and International journals in print and e-journals and is also the member of the HELINET consortium, DELNET and UpToDate: Evidence-Based Medical decision support service resource. The Library is fully automated with Easylib web version software (ILMS) and computerized through Bar-coding system. It is also well protected with a fire extinguisher and CCTV surveillance system

Library Services:

The services provided include the Circulation and Reference Collection, Newspaper and Periodicals and also Book Bank facilities for students. The Library is fully automated with Easylib web version software (ILMS) and computerized through Bar-coding system. The Institutional repository provided is the Dspace database named as “Gyangriha”: Here we can access Faculty Publications, University Question papers, Dissertations, Ph.D Thesis, and the college bulletin. The library also provides the use of software that aids in research for students, faculty and research scholars. ‘Turnitin’ for monitoring Plagiarism is used to check all written documents like thesis, dissertation and research articles which are to be submitted to the university. Nitte Researgence is another tool that captures all indexed publications, patents, projects, collaborative activities, books/chapter authorship, guideship, and membership, papers presented at conferences or participation in workshops by faculty members.

Rules and Regulations

Library

  • The library will remain open from 8.00 A.M to 5.30 P.M on all working days and on Saturday from 8 A.M to 12 P.M. Any changes in the schedule will be notified on the library notice board from time to time.
  • Every person who enters the library should sign the "Gate Register" in token of acceptance to adhere to the rules of the Library.
  • Readers should keep their personal belongings like Umbrella, bags, Briefcases, coats etc. at the property counter and are allowed to carry note books or loose sheets inside the library if required.
  • To refer to any book in the library, readers must submit their Reference card at the Reference counter. Entry should be done by the student in the Reference register. Reference books are not allowed to be taken out.
  • Reference books are allowed to be photo copied (except thesis and dissertation) with the permission of the Librarian or library staff.
  • Readers shall maintain perfect order and silence in the library. Engaging in conversation, discussion, group study, sleeping is strictly prohibited.
  • Food or Drinks are strictly prohibited in the Library.
  • Use of Mobile Phones is not allowed in the Library.
  • All books / journals and other materials are to be used with care.
  • No tracing or mechanical reproduction of any kind of reading material shall be made without the permission of the Librarian.
  • Issue and Return counter will be open from 8 A.M to 3.30 P.M
  • Each member is issued a borrowed card. Only one book is issued at a time against one borrower’s ticket. The card should be renewed every academic year.
  • For B.Pharm/Pharm.D/D.Pharm students apart from Book Bank, one book will be issued for the period of 7 days. After 7 days, the books may be renewed or returned, failing which, a fine of Rs.1/- per day will be charged.
  • M. Pharm students can take books from the Reference Section. Minimum 3 books can be borrowed at a time for 7 days after which they can renew or return the book.
  • Students are not permitted to sub lend their library cards to anyone and borrow books on others card
  • If a borrower has lost his/her card should inform the Librarian. Duplicate cards will be issued on payment of Rs.20/- each. At the end of the academic year He/She should return both cards to the library, if they fail to do so, Rs.50/- will be charged as fine.
  • Teaching staff members can take maximum of 6 books at a time for the period of one year.
  • These library rules may be altered or amended or new rules may be added to the existing ones by the concerned authority from time to time.

The library has a well established computer centre with a dedicated leased line for the staff and students access to the Internet & online database facility.

Librarian

Dr. Chandrashekhar D Librarian, NGSM Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Deralakatte, has completed his Doctoral Degree in Library and Information Science, from Mangalore University under the guidance of Dr Mahesh.V.Mudhol. He has 20 years professional experience and received M.Phil degree from Annamalai University, Chennai in 2008 and M.LISc Degree from Mangalore University, Mangalore in 1999. He has published 2 research articles, Presented 17 papers in National and International Conferences, attended more than 25 conferences, seminars, workshop and training programmes and has received the Best paper award at the 4th Annual conference of Karnataka Health Sciences Library Association held at Kidwai Institute of Oncology, Bangalore in the year 2012. He is a life member of the KHSLA, DKKLA
