Counselling for Suicide Prevention: Teachers as Gatekeepers

The Department of Mental Health Nursing jointly with the Nursing Education Unit of NUINS and Suicide Lifeline, Mangalore, organised a seminar on “Counselling for Suicide Prevention: Teachers as Gatekeepers” on 15th September 2025 at the NUINS Learning Centre.

The workshop was facilitated by Ms. Usha Rao, Education Consultant and Ms. Shalini Jenifer Dsouza, Student Counsellor & Lecturer, Fr. Muller Medical College of Allied Health Sciences. The resource persons conducted an engaging and insightful session highlighting the crucial role of teachers in identifying and supporting students at the risk of suicide. They also provided practical strategies for early intervention and effective counselling.

Dr. Jacintha Veigas, NEU Coordinator welcomed the gathering. The opening remarks were delivered by Ms. Prathima Sherigarthy, Lecturer. The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Sukesh, HoD, Mental Health Nursing. Faculty and postgraduates of NUINS actively participated in the workshop.
