Laboratory Safety and Management Training

An awareness and training program on Laboratory Safety and Management was conducted for the Research scholars and Laboratory Support Personnel of NUCSER on 18 July 2026.The resource person for the training, Mr. Amith Lionel Ananda, Senior Manager-Sustainability and Regulatory, Cardolite Specialty Chemicals India LLP, discussed with the participants the types of chemicals they are aware they are exposed to during their work in the laboratory. Further he also discussed chemical hazards to which one can unknowingly be exposed. Various aspects of laboratory safety, highlighting hazards due to chemical exposure, how to identify the hazardous nature of a chemical based on its Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS), safety data sheet interpretation, and, most importantly, the steps that can be taken to assess risks and reduce such hazards in routine laboratory activities.
The appropriate use of various personal protective equipment to ensure chemical safety were demonstrated. The objective of this training was to raise awareness among laboratory support staff and bring about changes to reduce health and safety risks associated with routine laboratory activities. Faculty members, research scholars, laboratory technicians, laboratory assistants, and laboratory attenders from NUCSER participated in this training.
