NUCSER in association with the NSS unit of Nitte University, brought back to life a heavily weed-infested lake at Innoli village, Ullal. NUCSER has been actively involved in rejuvenating water bodies in and around Ullal and Mudipu areas, as a part of the University`s Sustainable Development Goals, under goal number 14: Life Below Water.

Armed with a bunch of professionals and NSS volunteers, Team NUCSER undertook the daunting task of rejuvenating the Innoli village lake, which was constructed about twenty years ago, but was neglected and left unused due to the excessive growth of aquatic vegetation. The coordinated efforts that lasted several days resulted in the re-birth of the lake, which was long forgotten as a water body and was being used as a dumping ground for plastic bottles and other trash materials.

The formal event was held on 30th August 2025 at the premises of the DK Zilla Panchayat Higher Primary School, Innoli village, in the presence of Mr. Abdul Majeed, President, Pavoor Gram Panchayat, Mr Mohammed Monu, Former Taluk Panchayat President and other representatives of the Panchayat. Chief guest, Dr Suma Ballal, inaugurated the event and opined that conducting such activities is not easy, and what truly matters is how we manage and sustain them in the future. Mr. Majeed, the guest of honour, thanked the University officials for adopting this lake and bringing it back to life. He promised to keep this lake clean and tidy for use by the people of Innoli.

Mr. Mohammed Monu stated that NUCSER has greatly benefited the people and farmers of Innoli village, as the lake will now serve as a vital source of water for irrigation. On behalf of the Gram Panchayat, he conveyed heartfelt gratitude to Nitte University for undertaking such initiatives that contribute to social welfare and environmental conservation. On this occasion, the students and faculty of NUCSER participated in a cleaning drive in the vicinity of the lake and created awareness on Swachhata amongst the residents.
