Industry-Academia Workshop
Aug 8, 2025
The Nitte University Centre for Science Education and Research (NUCSER) successfully organized a three-day Industry–Academia Workshop on “Three Generations of PCR: Applications in Infectious Diseases Research” from 6th to 8th August 2025. The workshop aimed to impart hands-on training in PCR and its advanced variants, with a special focus on their applications in infectious disease research.
The inaugural ceremony was held on 6th August 2025. Prof. Dr. M.S. Moodithaya, Vice Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University), was the Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. Indrani Karunasagar, Director (Projects & NUTEC), graced the event as the Guest of Honour, and Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty, Director, NUCSER, presided over the function. The inaugural address highlighted the growing importance of rapid and accurate diagnostic tools for infectious diseases, especially in the context of emerging antimicrobial resistance.
The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics, including nucleic acid extraction, quantification and purity analysis; primer designing using bioinformatics tools; conventional PCR; reverse transcriptase PCR; real-time PCR (qPCR) and droplet digital PCR (ddPCR). Participants gained theoretical exposure from the resource persons from the industry and practical exposure to these techniques under the guidance of eminent faculty members - Dr. Gunimala Chakraborty, Dr. Praveen Rai, Dr. Deekshit, Dr. Krishna Kumar B, Dr. Juliet Mohan Raj and research scholars. The interactive sessions encouraged knowledge sharing and discussions on the application of PCR technologies in clinical diagnostics, epidemiological studies and public health research. The workshop was sponsored by BioRad Laboratories, DSS Takara Bio India, HiMedia Laboratories, and Crystal Bio Equipment.
The valedictory ceremony was held on 8th August 2025. Dr. A.N. Parameswaran, Director, Industry-Institute Collaboration (IIC), NMAMIT was the Chief Guest, while Prof. Dr. Iddya Karunasagar, Advisor (Research & Patents), was the Guest of Honour. Prof. Dr. Anirban Chakraborty presided over the event.
