A half-day workshop on “Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS)”

Nitte Institute of Speech and Hearing (NISH) organized a half-day workshop on “Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS)”, themed “Explore Brain Function, Beyond Imaging,” on 7 October 2026 at Avishkar Auditorium, ABSMIDS. The workshop was conducted by Dr. Mahipal Choudhary, Senior Neuroimaging Consultant, OneLab Neuro and NIRx Medical System, Germany. The programme aimed to enhance participants’ understanding of the fundamental principles, instrumentation, experimental design, and clinical and research applications of fNIRS, particularly in speech, language, hearing, cognition, and rehabilitation. The workshop included informative sessions on neuroimaging techniques, multimodal integration, and practical applications, followed by a hands-on demonstration of fNIRS equipment and recording procedures. Approximately 60 participants, including students, clinicians, and faculty members from NISH and other institutions in Mangalore, attended the programme. The workshop provided valuable practical exposure, promoted academic interaction, and strengthened participants’ knowledge of emerging neuroimaging technologies and their applications in communication sciences and rehabilitation research.
