NIFF 2019

Mass Communication Colleges in Mangalore

Overview

The third edition of Nitte International Film Festival (NIFF 2019) was held at Bharat Cinemas, Bharat Mall, Mangaluru between the 8th and 11th April. NIFF 2019 saw 70 films being screened and had 40 film makers participating.

The festival was inaugurated by P Sheshadri, award winning Kannada film maker who has directed eight National Award winning films and presided over by Prof Dr M Shantharam Shetty, Pro Chancellor, Nitte (Deemed to be University). The festival, which opened with the Kannada film "Mookajjiya Kanasugalu", showcased critically acclaimed cinema from across India and the world to the public in Mangaluru, while providing a platform for film-makers and film-viewers to have a conversation.

As is the practice every year, this year too all film-screenings and discussions at the festival were free and open to the public on a first come, first serve basis. Screenings were followed by an interactive session with the film makers, which saw enthusiastic participation by the public of Mangaluru.

Recognising the lacuna in Mangaluru’s arts and culture landscape for a major film festival, NIFF was launched in 2017 as a student-run festival organized by Nitte Institute of Communication.

Over the years, there has been a steady increase in the number of people visiting and actively participating in the film festival, with many shows running to packed houses this year
