Commemoration of Henry Dunant

The Youth Red Cross Unit (YRC) of Nitte (Deemed to be University) organized the commemoration of Henry Dunant on 30th October 2020 at the University premises. To commemorate his efforts as co-founder of the Red Cross, YRC - Nitte DU, felicitated frequent blood donors and organisers of the highest number of blood donation camps in this area.

Felicitated on the occasion were Dr Sumalatha R Shetty, Professor, Department of Anaesthesiology and NSS Coordinator for Nitte (DU) for donating blood 29 times and Mr George, Senior Radiographer, Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital who has donated blood a record 48 times. He also holds the distinction of being the most frequent male donor.

Also felicitated were Mr K Krishna Kumar Poonja, Trustee, Sevanjali Prathishtana, an NGO in Farangipete, who has organized 21 blood donation camps so far and Mr. Ibrahim Kareem, Coordinator of SSF Blood CYBO, Dakshina Kannada District, who has conducted 11 blood donation camps in collaboration with the Blood Bank of Justice K S Hegde Charitable Hospital.

The Vice-Chancellor of Nitte DU, Prof (Dr) Satheesh Kumar Bhandary in his presidential address congratulated both the donors and the organisers for their selfless service to the community. The donors and organisers were jointly felicitated by the Vice-Chancellor, the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Prof (Dr) M S Moodithaya and Registrar, Prof (Dr) Alka Kulkarni.

A webinar titled "Mental Health and Wellbeing for All" was conducted by Dr Srinivas Bhat U, Professor & Head, Department of Psychiatry, K S Hegde Medical Academy.

Mrs Latha S, Coordinator, YRC, Nitte (DU), welcomed the gathering and coordinated the program with all the program officers of Nitte DU. Ms Priyanka Nayak, Asst.Professor and Programme Officer of YRC, Nitte Institute of Physiotherapy was the Master of Ceremonies. The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Sukesh, Asst. Professor and Programme Officer of YRC, Nitte Usha Institute of Nursing Sciences.
